Tomorrow

My dad and brother will be joining us in a little while for a small Labor Day cookout--green chile bacon cheeseburgers, chips and homemade salsa, beer, sodas, caramel apples--and I know that once they're here, the rest of the night will just fly by in the blink of an eye. Eating, visiting, talking, laughing...kitchen cleanup, baths, bedtime stories...and by the end of it all I'll be crawling into bed just as exhausted as the kids.

And then I'll wake up, and it will be morning.

It will be Dylan's first day of Kindergarten.

I feel so unprepared for that.

I've got our lessons planned, the school room stands waiting, the supplies are ready...it's my heart that wants more time.

More time to hold on, just a little longer, to the baby he used to be.

More time to ready myself, just a little more, for the letting go I know I have to do.

I am so glad he'll be here by my side for his very first day of Kindergarten. I am so blessed to have the privilege of being his Mommy and his teacher. I pray for the grace to be made worthy of the honor.

You will do GREAT!!!! And you know, I've only been doing it for a week and one day, and I LOVE it! I am so thankful I made the brave attempt. And you aren't "letting go" because the beauty of this homeschooling trek is that you get to spend every moment of it with your precious children - you don't have to drop them off somewhere and drive away, not able to witness the events making up their day and the things they are learning. I think you are going to LOVE homeschooling. Just get in there and enjoy it! I let my focus get off having fun on that first day and it's too important. Keep it fun! Good luck, Melissa!!!! (though I truly believe you won't need any ;) )
