Happy Halloween!

I'm not usually prone to impulsive grocery store check-out purchases, but when I saw this Halloween Pillsbury magazine while waiting in line a few weeks ago, I just couldn't resist. Since then, Dylan and Caitlyn have enjoyed perusing it at their leisure, bookmarking ideas they wanted to include in our own little Halloween party. So, tonights menu included a "Scarecrow Taco Dip" and "Bite-Size Bugs with Bug-Catching Dip", selected by Dylan and Caitlyn, and some "Eyeball Eggs" and "Magic Potion" that I chose to include just for fun. We also made some more caramel apples today.

Here's how it all turned out:

Dylan and Caitlyn loved it, and I'm already thinking about all the fun things I might try next year!

Earlier today we made some trick or treat containers using empty milk jugs. We still have the plastic pumpkins Dylan and Caitlyn used last year but I thought these would be a fun activity for them to enjoy today. (I still fondly remember making some when I was a kid, along with my brothers and our neighborhood friends.) These were so simple, yet they had so much fun making them!

We all really enjoyed going out trick or treating in our neighborhood tonight. I wanted to get some pictures of the kids in their costumes, but Meghan was not the least bit cooperative! At one point I finally decided, rather smugly, that if I simply held her she would settle down and have her picture taken. Wrong! But here, at least, is a rarity: a photo of me and all three of my adorable children!

Hi Melissa!
I've been reading your blog for awhile and thought I would actually comment and say hi. I just love this picture of you with the three kids in their costumes. My twins boys (20 months) had the same bee costumes as your little girl. They were not fond of the hood. :)
What great Halloween ideas. The milk jug idea is great. I will have to try that next year. I saw the same Halloween recipe book on the stands and had it in my hands to buy but put it back. That's strange for me because there is usually a strong magnetic field between my hands and those little recipe books. Looks like I missed out!
Well, I love stopping by to check out your beautiful kids and the activities that their AWESOME mom comes up with.

What a treat it always is to read your blog! I am ever impressed by your craftiness as well as your cooking abilities. I'm inspired to cook up a more festive meal next Halloween (though hot dogs were awfully easy :) ). And your children look so cute in their costumes! Alex had the same Buzz Lightyear costume last year. He still wears it for play, though it's a bit too small now. Loved the milk jug idea, too!!!
